There are only two weeks left until our favorite event of the year, The Annual Baby Prom! If you have yet to attend, imagine fun music, a twirling disco ball, and babies & toddlers of all ages dressed in their finery, from beautiful tulle dresses to tuxedo t-shirts dancing the afternoon away with their adoring mommies & daddies. Plus all of the things you already love about Gymboree, bubbles, parachutes, and soft places to climb, run, and slide. Add in an opportunity to give back to a worthy cause and you'll be starting to get the picture.
This year's event will raise money for the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware. a non-profit organization that serves as a resource for individuals with Down syndrome and their families and promotes public awareness, education and advocacy. One of the many programs and services the DSA provides is a weekly class for young children with Down Syndrome at Gymboree Play and Music of Wilmington. The class began in the fall of 2015 and has allowed families to connect with each other while giving their children an opportunity to practice their gross motor and socialization skills in a safe, supportive environment. The children and their families have blossomed over the last six months. Melanie Smith was key in establishing a connection between the DSA and Gymboree. Her three-and-a-half-year-old son has been attending classes at the North Wilmington site for nearly a year.
“When I say we're going to Gymboree, his whole face lights up. His gross motor development in this past year has been profound, and I attribute the large majority of it to his "work" at Gymboree (in addition to great therapists!). I've told all of Chance's therapists that they should recommend Gymboree to all of their young patients, because it makes that big of a difference in the strength, skills, and confidence of our kids. It's a safe environment for them to explore their body's movement, and it is fun - there's lots of music, game play, and socializing with other kids. Best of all, the people who work at and run Gymboree are just amazing - they really care about each of our children and their personal growth and development. They know our kids' names, and they get to know us as families. It's a great support for any parent. We love Gymboree!"
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve these young families and felt The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware was the perfect choice as the beneficiary of our 2016 Baby Prom. The event will take place Sunday April 24th. The first prom will run from 12 – 2 and will be for babies under 14 months or non-walkers. The later prom will run from 4 – 6 pm for all children under five. The later prom will also feature our brand new dance lighting.
